Texas Transitional

This large home was reconfigured and remodeled down to the studs to create generous, light-filled spaces for the clients to enjoy with their family and friends. The previously dark rooms were transformed by adding expanses of large windows and sliding doors to bring in natural light and offer easy access to the new outdoor living areas. The original two staircases were changed into one dramatic staircase in the formal living room and a discreet elevator that is easily accessible in a central location. Additional lighting was also added throughout to provide multiple lighting “scenes” from bright task lighting to low nighttime pathways. The serene color palette was accented with playful highlights of bright turquoise, orange, green, and acid yellow, utilizing easy to care for materials and fabrics. 

Florentine Kitchen

Award Winner - 2010 Legacy of Design: Rising Star 1st Place Residential Kitchen

Inspired by the beautiful finishes and details of a luxury hotel in Florence, Italy, this kitchen reminds the client daily of her most memorable European travels. Far ahead of the white kitchen trend that has taken the world of residential interiors by storm, the white Statuario Venato marble and grey Bardigli Nuvolato marble combine to create a bright and classic feel for the space. At the time of this project, acquiring marble of this quality in this coloration was extremely difficult since it was not at all as popular as it is now, so these marble architectural elements, such as door casings and base trim along with patterned floor tile, had to be fabricated to specification from the source itself: Italy. This not only added to the high-end feel of the space, but also brought in the authentic details from the Florentine inspiration. These countertops fabricated locally from the imported matching Statuario Venato marble along with the custom–designed cabinetry provide optimal functionality and style. The exacting requirements of a gourmet kitchen were carefully designed to fit within the small existing footprint of this historic home by reconfiguring the space to open up the room, bringing in more natural light, and adding a faux window to create the illusion of a larger kitchen space.

Contemporary Spec Home

This distinctive home, built on-spec in the Preston Hollow neighborhood of Dallas, appeals to potential buyers with a discerning eye for contemporary design at a luxury price point. The architect provided a plan washed in daylight and sited to take full advantage of the mature landscaping, with private views to the pool and rear outdoor living areas. We featured the exterior stone on an entry wall, a double-sided fireplace in the family room and dining room, and a wall in the study. This design element, combined with large steel window and door units, creates a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor living areas. The custom-designed floating staircase with book-matched white oak veneer and glass balustrade creates a dramatic effect as one enters the front door. Lighting with sculptural and architectural qualities punctuates the design of each space. The addition of custom details, such as built-in banquettes in the breakfast area, interior doors with textured glass panels and custom trim details, quietly enhance the homes’ contemporary style. A neutral, warm grey and soft white color palette provides a dramatic backdrop for the future homeowner’s art collection, furniture and accessories.

Crisp Contemporary Spec Home

Art Gallery Inspired Residence

The expansive floor plan for the kitchen, living and dining areas was inspired by contemporary art galleries. A palette of crisp whites, greys, and wood tones creates a backdrop for vibrant tones in the art, furniture and accessories. Integrating interior and exterior areas provides a seamless open living space ideal for entertaining as well as a comfortable place to relax. The cool palette of the master suite contrasts with the warmth of the main living area creating a resort-like retreat. The simplicity of forms and finishes balance with bursts of color, giving this project vitality and reflecting the clients’ personalities.

Modern Mediterranean Kitchen Prep Area

This Mediterranean style home was transformed from the original dark “Old World” finishes and details into a bright and open home for entertaining family and friends. The kitchen and bar spaces were completely reconfigured to create openings to the great room and breakfast room while also increasing the functionality of the space. Custom millwork display cabinets with feature lighting were added to the dining room entrance to showcase the client’s art glass collection. The oversized cast stone columns were replaced with pared down fluted millwork, and the floors were changed from rustic travertine stone tiles to dark-stained hickory wood flooring throughout to ground the new lighter neutral color palette and to provide contrast. As the former owner of a catering business, the client loves to cook for large groups in her new kitchen with a full cadre of professional appliances. The 48” workstation sink with all the accessories makes preparing meals a breeze. The master bath was also updated and improved to create a brightly lit space with customized storage.

Dining Room - Straight View

Award Winner - 2011 Legacy of Design: Rising Star 1st Place Residential Singular Space (Dining Room) and Rising Star Award of Merit Existing Conditions (Guest Bedroom)

Inspired by the classic Acadian cottage architecture of A. Hayes Town, this new construction project in Fort Worth captures the charm and character of life in historic South Louisiana. Characteristic white columns, large plantation shutters, and handcrafted gas lanterns from the French Quarter of New Orleans on the front exterior set the tone for this traditional home. Warm custom woodwork throughout the house perfectly marries the old-world inspiration with the client’s personal style and needs, especially in the trendsetting white kitchen where style meets functionality with a generous recessed range area for cooking, an industrial style faucet, and the pecky cypress ceiling detail. Dramatic exposed beams effortlessly compliment the beautiful reclaimed, wide-planked pine floors shipped from an abandoned barn in Virginia against the smooth cream contrast of the walls, ultimately creating a feel that is timeless by combining historic elements with current finishes. This effect is continued through the house with exposed brick fireplace feature wall and repurposed, antique stain-glassed doors that provide historical context for this newly constructed property. Though the home looks as though it has always rested beneath the shady branches of the large live oak tree in the front, the porch looks out over the carefully considered and climate conscious landscaping by Archiverde.
